    Speaking of Birthdays

    By Jeremy | December 9, 2006

December is a big birthday month for my family. Happy Birthday to my brother Jamie, both Uncle Riches (mine and Diana's) and Uncle Mikey, and cousins Jennifer and Michele. Tonight we celebrate my Uncle Rich's 50th and tomorrow Jamie's 27th. And last night, Judah and I went with Grandma and Grandpa to see The Nativity, a celebration of Christ's birth.

Re. the movie - on the whole it's very good, but it drags at times, and Mary (Keisha Castle-Hughes) was played kind of flat. Joseph (Oscar Isaac) was great. I loved that the story focuses on Mary and Joseph's respective journeys from shock and awe of her pregnancy to the circumstances of JC's birth, including the context of Roman occupation, Nazarene poverty, Herrod's brutality, the 100 mile desert journey to Bethlehem, and the social stigma on Mary's unmarried pregnancy. Judah wants to see it again, and I intend to buy the DVD.
