    Reimagining JC at

    By Jeremy | July 14, 2006

Much love to George Flores and the WMCA radio family for inviting me to speak at the first annual Youth Leaders BBQ on Thursday.
Saw an old friend Nestor Solis for the first time in almost 15 years. He was in my parent's youth group when they were the youth pastors at International Christian Center in the early 80s. Now he was with the youth pastor from Gateway Cathedral. Rollie and Matt came with me, then Katy joined us to sing a couple of songs from her new CD, Finding Me. WMCA hosted a first class event, graciously, at the campus of The Life Christian Church in West Orange, NJ. Thanks again for a great day of food, fellowship, and fun.
From the greeting I wrote for the program:

If you're attending this BBQ, it means you've enlisted for arguably the most significant Kingdom mission in the region. As a youth worker in Greater New York, you have been commissioned to love and serve one of the largest, ripest spiritual harvest fields in the country.

Five million youth 18 and younger populate our area. By themselves, they would be the second largest city in America. Your responsibility, as a youth leader, is to reach every one of those beloved young people.

OK, so that might be slightly overstated, but the fact remains that reaching those five million souls – who represent 25% of the region's overall population and exert disproportionate influence on global youth culture because of the city's media and cultural significance – is nearer to God's heart than almost anything else. "Let the little children come to me," he said, "and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these" (Luke 18:15-17). Who's more "like a child" – Christ's prerequisite for entering His kingdom – than a child?

These are the souls he invites us to love, the lives he's called us to serve, the people he has trusted to our care. "I tell you the truth," he says, "whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40).

Let's explore together how to "do" for them like He did for us.
