Gun violence too close to home

    By Jeremy | July 22, 2007

A developing story just came across the news: a 10-year-old boy was shot within the past hour in Gompers Houses on Pitt Street, in the Lower East Side, just blocks from where my parents live and where we were ministering all week with JLYNY. Last week, on Wednesday night, a son shot his father just blocks away from where I live in Brooklyn, on 69 Street and 3rd Avenue. It's diconcerting when violence hits so close to home, literally. Please pray. UPDATE, 7/24: Pastor Roger McPhail from Gateway City Church just informed me that the Brooklyn shooting was actually a suicide, where the 20-year old son shot himself. He had visited Gateway shortly before the incident, and the church was asked to host his funeral. Related + Chris Brooks reflects on his journey towards gun-free living.
