I attended BattleCry for most of the day Saturday and enjoyed an excellent production that featured a great mix of local and national talent and speakers. The indisputable highlight for me was seeing the mass youth choir comprised of six different area youth groups, under the direction and arrangement of James Gabriel. Still only 23 or 24, James is a product of Youth Explosion ministries in Queens and a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music. He walked away from a promising position with Grammy winning producer Rodney Jerkins to invest himself in full-time music ministry. This weekend, I had the privilege of watching the team of youth worshipers he assembled usher 12,000+ into the presence of God.
Props also to Yankee and Giant greats Mariano Rivera and David Tyree, Nicky Cruz and Dr. A.R. Bernard, David Ham and TRUCE, and youth pastors Adam Durso, Jack Redmond, Edwin Pacheco, Jamaal Bernard, Tyrone McDonald and the entire local committee for representing our city and the God we serve so well. Thanks also to Ron Luce and Teen Mania for showcasing what God is doing in young people from within New York as part of the program. Finally, Thanks to Cross Movement, Unhindered, Trio de Hoy, David Crowder, Kirk Franklin, and Bishop TD Jakes for supporting the effort. (Sidebar: Kirk is probably the most energetic performer I've ever seen live.)
Here is a sample of my pictures from the weekend. Check all 257 out here.
Great blog. Missed the entire event, being hearing great things about it. I can agree with Kirk being highly energetic, I saw him at the Beacon a year ago he actually climbed up on to the Balcony and was dancing with the security guards!
