“The voice of the supressed God made FUNKY”

    By Jeremy | September 13, 2007

Props to NYC Lase, Kekoa and Da Movement crew for "Meeting the Needs by Bringin' Da Heat!" at their debut event on Saturday at Manhattan's Columbus Park. Da Movement lived up to the hype as a "fashion and art extravaganza" featuring premier NYC artists, designers, models, VJs, DJs, music, dance, and more. Proceeds of an art auction and sales of limited edition fashion (buy yours while supplies last) support Invisible Children and Paradox’s campaign against eating disorders. What I most appreciate about Da Movement is its attempt to "match cause with cool" in a way that "empowers sophisticated urbanites to move beyond trendy text message 'signatures' for the One Campaign and PRODUCT(RED) t-shirts at the Gap." The brainchild of legendary graffiti artist, DJ, event and music producer, and party promoter NYC Lase, Da Movement melds the underground art world with fashion forward hipsters. It raisess awareness for the cause of justice both home and abroad by highlighting what Lase describes as the "voice of the suppressed [which] GOD made FUNKY." The who’s who of NYC’s underground art scene participated, including: Here are my pics from the event.
