A weekend fire claimed the lives of two more firefighters at Ground Zero. That firefighters ever pay the supreme sacrifice for their bravery is tragic in itself. But this particular tragedy is pathetic in that it never should have happened.
The former Deutsche Bank building stands across the street from the site of the former World Trade Center and was totally gutted on 9/11. Condemned immediately following the attacks, political infighting and inexplicable delays mean the building's shell still stands nearly six years later. It's the only relic remaining from that fatefully day, and the delays in bringing it down cost two more firefighters their lives.

UPDATE: I just heard on the news that one of the victims tended bar part-time around the corner from my home at the
Salty Dog Bar and Grill. I'm going there for dinner tonight in his memory.
