    Arks Aplenty

    By Jeremy | June 22, 2007

Evan Almighty is a laugh out loud, make a fool of yourself in the movie theater funny film that also packs a poignant punch. It didn't hurt that I was with my son when we saw it tonight and many of the sight gags are designed to tickle his funny bone more than mine. There are some classic lines in the film. A few, from the trailer, include:
Evan Baxter: [Looks into rearview, sees God who just appeared out of nowhere] AAGGGHHHHH! AAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH! God: [smiling] Let it out, son. It's the beginning of wisdom. ________________ Evan's Wife: You want to build a boat? Evan Baxter: It might be something fun for the family. Go sailing on the lake. I don't know. [looking at his feet, under his breath] Evan Baxter: Be great in case it floods or something... [from trailer] ________________ Evan's Wife: Maybe God meant a flood of 'awareness.' Evan Baxter: If that's true, I'm going to be so pissed. ________________ Evan Baxter: [on the ark, addressing a big crowd] People! The flood is imminent! [everyone looks around, bewildered, and up at the sunny sky. Evan addresses the heavens] Evan Baxter: Is it too much to ask for a LITTLE PRECIPITATION?
But my favorite lines were not in the trailer. Here's my paraphrase of two of the best.
God: If you pray for patience, do you think God just… gives you patience? Or does he give you opportunities to be patient? If you pray for courage, do you think he just gives you courage, or opportunities to be courageous? When you pray for your family to grow closer, does God send warm fuzzy feelings, or opportunities to stand together? ________________ God: How do you change the world? One act of random kindness [ARK] at a time.
That's right: Acts of Random Kindness. In a round-a-bout way, the entire movie feels like a $175 million commercial for Chain Reaction.

my favorite part was when Evan said “That wasn’t in my plans.” and God laughs hysterically… sounds like a familiar laugh. :)

I just told Katy about the same part of God laughing.
