    Dean Jonathan

    By Jeremy | August 9, 2006

More on our local Adopt-A-School experiment.
Jonathan, in 2003, with a PS 34 student

After offering teaching positions to both Jonathan and Dorothy, the principal at PS 34 asked Jonathan to also become the 7th and 8th grade dean. As dean, he will be responsible both for math interventions with underperforming students and disciplinary issues ... hmm, sounds like Generation Xcel's target market.
I'm still scratching my head over this. AGM and Xcel have tried off-and-on for at least five years to formalize our relationship with PS 34 so that we could be more intentional about serving students and families from the school. Now, after changing our thinking slightly about how best to serve the school, within six weeks AGM's youth pastor (and an Xcel cofounder) becomes dean and AGM's missions director (and a former Xcel program coordinator) becomes math teacher.
We may have stumbled onto something here.
