    Open Source the Gospel

    By Jeremy | March 16, 2007

In January, in response to a question about how to engage a plugged-in generation, I wrote:
    8. Embrace the open source culture of the internet and its ability to empower the masses. Like all great technological innovations, the internet was built by people who shared their knowledge with others who could improve upon it. Google, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr and other great web 2.0 sites have exploded in popularity and reach because they make their resource freely available to end-users. They keep entry-costs low and everybody can get involved. Christians online need to follow a similar path. Freely we have received. Freely give.
That's why this video from Jordon regarding the future on online content sharing caught my eye. It's from this year's TED conference in Silicone Valley, always a great outpost for innovative ideas. It's a 20 minute presentation about how to make online education (nearly) free for all. "Free Online Education for All" (Richard Baraniuk, TEDTalks) In related news, Urbana 2006 has made all of its content available online, for free. You can't beat that.
